WASHINGTON – The Canadiens continue to look for a first road win this season following a 3-1 loss to the Capitals on Saturday.

Head coach Martin St-Louis made a pair of changes to his lineup prior to puck drop. Jonathan Drouin suited up for the first time this season, slotting in for Rem Pitlick. Sam Montembeault likewise made his season debut, taking Jake Allen‘s spot between the pipes on the second night of a back-to-back.

Alex Ovechkin looked to have grabbed the lead for Washington late in the opening frame, but the goal was ruled offside following a coach’s challenge.

The hosts held a 12-8 advantage in shots through 20 minutes but there were otherwise zeros on the board heading into intermission.

Captain Nick Suzuki got the Canadiens on the board first at 2:01 in the second, ending a span of 82:20 without a goal with a fantastic individual effort.

Rookie Arber Xhekaj notably earned his first career NHL point on the play.

The Caps made it a new game seven minutes later when Conor Sheary buried a pass from Nick Jensen on the doorstep to tie things up 1-1 at 9:02.

Longueuil native Anthony Mantha gave Washington the lead with a precise shot from the circle at 11:43 before T.J. Oshie doubled it at 15:20 to end the period 3-1.

Montreal outshot Washington 9-3 in the final frame, but the score remained unchanged.

The Canadiens will be back in action on Monday, when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Bell Centre.
