£16.8m player left out of squad, he’s signing for Tottenham really soon

Destiny Udogie to Tottenham Hotspur is now looking a lot more likely.

The Telegraph reported on Friday that Spurs were closing in on a deal to sign the Udinese left-back.

After that, Fabrizio Romano claimed on Twitter that Tottenham duo Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici were both major fans of the defender.

All signs are pointing toward a transfer to North London – and even more so now.

According to Di Marzio in Italy, Udogie has just been left out of a squad for the Italian club’s last pre-season friendly of the summer.

That in itself is a major indicator about a move to Tottenham.

But the publication also added that the development is indeed linked with his would-be transfer to the Premier League.

However, Di Marzio adds that the 19-year-old starlet – who’ll cost around £16.8 million up front – will be getting loaned back to Udinese for the duration of the 2022-23 campaign.

This is quite an interesting development because it might indicate that Tottenham could yet sign another left-back this summer, after Udogie.

That’s because Sergio Reguilon is expected to be leaving Hotspur Way and if the teenager isn’t staying with Conte’s squad this season then it leaves the squad a little short.

Then again, it could just as plausibly suggest that Ivan Perisic is Reguilon’s short-term replacement at wing-back, with the Croatia international joining on a Bosman earlier this summer.

Nevertheless, Udogie to Spurs is looking like a matter of time and it’ll be interesting to see if they really do intend to loan him out immediately.
