Patrick Vieira has already highlighted issue Arsenal may have if they sign Renato Sanches | Football | Sport
Patrick Vieira has already detailed why Arsenal should avoid signing Renato Sanches. The Portugal international was heavily linked with an Emirates transfer in the summer window.
Arsenal have already been warned off potentially signing Sanches in January by legendary midfielder Vieira.
The Frenchman, who is now in charge of Crystal Palace in the Premier League, has been watching plenty of Ligue 1 football over the past couple of seasons.
He was sacked as Nice manager in 2020 but was keen on returning to work in the division during the 2020/21 campaign.
The 45-year-old was asked about his opinion on Sanches during Euro 2020 when working for ITV as a pundit and admitted he has done fantastic with Lille.
However, he also warned that his inconsistency has let him down – a problem that Mikel Arteta does not need at the Emirates.
Vieira said: “He was a big prospect. Everybody was waiting for him to be one of the top young players for the future.
“He moved to Bayern Munich where he has a very difficult period.
“I don’t think it was the right place for him to keep developing. But last year with Lille, he did really well.
“He wasn’t really consistent during the season, but he had some flashes of his talent.”
Sanches was in fine form last season, leading Lille to the Ligue 1 title ahead of money-splashing Paris Saint-Germain in an incredible story.
The midfielder has had an eventful career despite still just being 24.
He broke onto the scene for Portugal at Euro 2016 when he was named the youngster of the tournament and a move from Benfica to Bayern Munich followed.
But his time in Germany was ill-fated and only became worse when he joined Swansea on loan during a difficult season for him in the Premier League.
However, he has rediscovered his form in France and a transfer to the Premier League had been heavily touted with Liverpool also interested in his services.
