Arsenal told Aaron Ramsey wants to complete Gunners return in the January transfer window

Arsenal have been told that Aaron Ramsey could be open to the idea of a return to the Emirates this January.

The Wales international spent 11 years in North London, claiming three FA Cup and scoring the wining goal in two of them before leaving on a free transfer to join Juventus in 2019.

Things haven’t exactly gone to plan for him in Turin though, as injuries and strong competition for places have seen him play just 112 minutes this season leading to reports that the Old Lady are keen to get his £400,000 per week wages off their books.

And now Arsenal have had it indicated to them that their former midfielder is interested in the idea of coming back in the upcoming transfer window.

Speaking to talkSPORT Ramsey ‘s former teammate Theo Walcott revealed that a return to the Gunners is something that might be a possibility.

“I’ll find out, give him a call and pester him (on if he’s returning to the Premier League),” he said.

“Do you know what, it would be lovely, it would be fantastic if he came back to the Premier League. I feel like he would want to.

“Some part of me in my head thinks that he would love to come back to Arsenal. It does. Something about that would sort of tick a box.

“It’s one of those things, he’s at Juventus and he played very well for Wales last night and it’s good to see. A lot of people have been on his back in Italy, which I haven’t seen a lot or enough of it to comment on that.

“But he’s a leader. He’s a workhorse. Still playing for his country and has all these caps.”

Arsenal could be open to bringing in some more options in the middle of the park, as it is a position they are set to be light in by the time January comes around.

Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny will head off the to the African Cup of Nations to represent Ghana and Egypt respectively, while Granit Xhaka isn’t expected back in training until the New Year as he continues to recover from a knee injury sustained in September’s North London Derby win over Tottenham.

This would leave inexperienced duo Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Albert Sambi Lokonga as the Gunners’ only senior options in the middle of the park, meaning Mikel Arteta could be tempted to bring in an experienced face like Ramsey.

It should be said that the move would be unlikely though unless the Welsh international were to significantly drop his wage demands.

Bringing in the 30-year-old would also go against the clearly defined transfer policy set out by Josh Kroenke and Edu of signing young players to create a squad that can grow together and eventually challenge for the biggest trophies in the game.
