Journalist says 24-year-old’s Spurs revival isn’t actually Conte’s doing

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has addressed a report he wrote last week about Tanguy Ndombele being in the best shape of his Spurs career.

The journalist wrote a piece for Football London claiming that the Sports Science department in north London had noted that the Frenchman was in the best shape they’d seen him in, and as you can imagine, many fans were quick to praise Antonio Conte for this revival.

However, Gold says that this information didn’t actually come from the Conte era, claiming that Nuno Espirito Santo and Ndombele himself deserve credit for this improvement.

Gold shares what he knows about Ndombele and his fitness.

“He’s apparently, this season thus far, in the best shape of his Spurs career. I put that out and many people said it was the Conte effect, but I wasn’t talking about Conte, I was talking about before that, so you have to give credit to Nuno and Tanguy himself. In that Newcastle game he ran more than any other player on the pitch,” Gold said.

Nuno’s best work

Nuno Espirito Santo didn’t get much right at Tottenham, but it’s fair to say that he figured out how to handle Ndombele.

Somehow, the Portuguese gaffer managed to get him in the best shape of his Spurs career and the Frenchman seemed to play with a lot of motivation under Nuno.

Hopefully, Ndombele doesn’t regress under Conte, and while Spurs fans won’t have many good things to say about Nuno and his time at the club, his work with Ndombele should be commended.
