“Happy With My Choice To Move From AC Milan To Inter”

Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has no regrets about his decision to join the Nerazzurri from city rivals AC Milan in the summer.

Speaking to football podcast 433, as reported by FCInterNews, the 27-year-old opened up about the process of moving clubs in the summer, and also stated that he is settling in well in Nerazzurri colours.

Inter wasted no time in signing Calhanoglu when it was clear that a contract extension would not be agreed with the Rossoneri, especially given that they needed someone who could replace the profile of the stricken Chrsitian Eriksen.

The Turk is far from the first player to have made the switch directly between the Milan clubs, but moves such as his always catch the attention of many in football.

Calhanoglu has quickly established himself as a regular in the team, and he made a major statement with a strong performance and penalty against his former side in the derby.

On the circumstances of his move to Inter, the midfielder explained that “My contract was ending. My agent was working with me. I had spent four good years at Milan, I respect everyone there.”

“I’m fine with everyone there, if you ask them you’ll see that I still have many friends at the club,” he went on. “I decided to move because I wanted a new challenge and I made my choice along with my family.”

He stated that “I’m happy, Inter are a great club, they just won the league, they play in the Champions League. There is a lot of competition between many strong players here.”

“We have to look forward in life, never backwards,” he reflected. “I am grateful to Milan, I had a good time there. I have no problems with them.”

“Inter were very nice to me, and everyone at the club is very smart,” Calhanoglu went on. “I remember when the manager called me to say they wanted, as did the Sporting Director Ausilio. He told me what they wanted, spoke to me about the club.”

He continued that “Inter have always been a great club, they have often won the derbies of late. I told myself that I knew the language, I could stay in the city where I know people and have good friends.”

“I talked to my family and they told me that I should make the move,” he said. “The first day there was very nice, but I was alone because many players were with their national teams.”

“Then they started to arrive and they all welcomed me. People are kind here and I’m glad to be here,” he stated.

“I get along with everyone, particularly with De Vrij and Dumfries,” he went on, “especially because they speak Dutch which is similar to German.”

And of his relationship with coach Simone Inzaghi, the midfielder stated that “I already knew of him at Lazio. I always liked his offensive 3-5-2 formation.”

“There was an understanding from day one,” he went on about the coach. “We worked together and then I had an excellent debut against Genoa. The fans were expecting something from me, I came from Milan. It was a good day, I won’t ever forget it.”

“I expect great things in the next three years but I don’t want to talk about it too much,” he added. “We’re ambitious, we want to win the league. We beat Sheriff in the Champions League and now we want to do the same against Real and Shakhtar, and then obviously there is also the Coppa Italia.”

“A player always wants to win everything,” he added, “you have to make it happen. If I win trophies then I can tell my children about when I played for Inter and I won things.”

“I want to play at my best during the next three years and do a good job for the team,” Calhanoglu concluded. “Maybe then I’ll become a coach at the end of my career, we’ll see what happens. At the end of these three years we’ll see whether I stay in Europe or not. I don’t know  yet.”
