Celtic Europa League hopes boosted again as Real Betis star man Nabil Fekir hammered by UEFA

Real Betis star Nabil Fekir has been ruled out of their trip to Celtic in December with suspension.

A 4-0 thumping against leaders Bayer Leverkusen means Betis are within the Hoops’ reach as they vie to reach the last 16 of the Europa League.

The Spanish side sit one point above Ange Postecoglou ‘s team in Group G and travel to Glasgow for their final group game.

But they will be without Fekir as UEFA have hit him with a three-game ban for the incident that saw him sent off against Leverkusen.

A moment of madness from the France star saw him put his hands around the throat of Kerem Demirbay.

He saw red on the day which would normally have kept him out for only one game, their clash with Ferencvaros.

But UEFA have deemed it violent conduct so he will miss Betis’ two remaining group games and their next European game after that.

Betis are not expected to appeal the decision, with their captain Joaquin stating after the game: “Nabil is a footballer with a strong character and with a lot of personality.

“But the nerves and the tension have got the better of him here, although these are things that cannot happen because they stain his football skills.”
