Barcelona boss Xavi is prepared to listen to offers for Frenkie de Jong.

Having sealed his return to the Camp Nou earlier this month, Xavi has been tasked with guiding the Catalan giants out of their current malaise.

Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling and RB Leipzig star Karim Adeyemi are two names on the manager’s January wish-list.

But Barcelona precarious financial position complicates the club’s plans to bring in new recruits, with the club limited to free transfers and loans in 2021.

The club may look to raise funds through player sales with El Chiringuito reporting that 21-year-old star de Jong could be put up for sale.

Barcelona paid £75m to bring the Netherlands international to the club from Ajax in 2019 and has one of their most consistent performers in that time.

It is claimed the breakthroughs of midfield talents Pedri and Gavi could soften the blow of cashing in on a key player who would demand a large transfer fee, possibly from a Premier League side.

Barcelona are reportedly ready to offload Philippe Coutinho with the former Liverpool star one of their top earners but still to find the form that convinced the club to spend £140m on him in 2018.

A recent report from Sport however suggests the playmaker has no intention of leaving mid-season and still hopes to impress the new manager.
