Barcelona legend Eric Abidal to be quizzed by police over masked men’s attack on PSG star
Eric Abidal will be questioned by French police over the ongoing investigation into the attack this month on Kheira Hamraoui.
Hamraoui, a professional footballer for PSG Femmes, was rushed to hospital with injuries to her legs and hands.
The 31-year-old had been pulled from her car by two men with masks as she made her way back from a club dinner organised by PSG.
According to The Times, Abidal will now be questioned amid speculation that adultery could be at the centre of the case.
Abidal is not thought to have direct involvement, but prosecutors want to investigate a ‘privileged relationship’ with Hamraoui.
The case originally made headlines when Aminata Diallo, who was at the wheel of the car, was arrested on suspicion of plotting the assault to take Hamraoui’s place.
However, Diallo has since been released on insufficient evidence, and she has released a statement.
“Aminata Diallo deplores the perfectly artificial dramatisation of a rivalry between her and Kheira Hamraoui which would justify her taking it out on her team-mate.
“This theory does not correspond in any way to the true nature of their relationship.
“Other much more serious leads are now being looked at by investigators, which do not implicate my client in any way.
“Aminata Diallo regrets the media uproar which had already sentenced her, with no basis.
“And she would like to emphasise that she will not hesitate to defend her rights through legal action, if necessary, against all defamation.”
