Torino set to hand bumper new deal to Tottenham target Gleison Bremer
Torino are reportedly willing to triple Gleison Bremer’s wages as part of a bumper new deal amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
According to the chief editor of Tutto Mercato Web, Marco Conterio, Tottenham Hotspur might have an uphill task in their pursuit of Gleison Bremer. Torino are willing to hand a bumper new deal to the 24-year-old defender, with his wages getting tripled as part of the proposed contract.
Gleison Bremer joined Torino from Atletico Mineiro in the summer of 2018 and has since established himself as one of the most consistent centre-backs in Serie A. The Brazilian defender has come leaps and bounds in the last three years and is now a mainstay for Il Toro.
To date, the 24-year-old has made 88 appearances for Torino, chipping in with 11 goals and five assists in the process. However, the Granata are in a precarious position over the long-term future of the player, who will enter the final 18 months of his contract at the turn of the year. Such a situation has piqued the interest of Tottenham Hotspur.
Antonio Conte has recently been appointed as the new Tottenham manager. The Italian tactician is set to oversee a major surgical procedure of the squad bestowed to him. Defence is a major area of concern for the Spurs boss, and for a good reason.
Cristian Romero can be trusted to be a reliable component in a three-man central defensive unit, having excelled in a similar setup for Atalanta last season. However, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez tend to blow hot and cold while Joe Rodon has not made enough progress since joining Tottenham from Swansea City last year.
So, it is hardly surprising that Tottenham are keen on signing a centre-back at the earliest possible opportunity, with Bremer among their targets. However, the north Londoners will be up against it if they are to land the 24-year-old, with Torino ready to hand him a bumper new contract that will triple his wages.
What remains to be seen is if Spurs are willing to match or improve Torino’s offer and whether the Brazilian defender is ready to forego such a lucrative offer to join Tottenham anyway. Marco Conterio has also added that Tottenham are keen on signing two centre-backs. With Milan Skriniar, Nikola Milenkovic and Stefan de Vrij also on their radar, it will be interesting to see who arrives at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in January.
