Who should Manchester United keep or sell in the January transfer window

Manchester United drafted in three marquee signings during the summer transfer window in a bid to turn themselves back into genuine Premier League title challengers, but that ambition has yet to spark into life.

The club invested significant amounts of money in bringing Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford, all in the hope that they would significantly strengthen their respective positions.

After 11 Premier League matches this season, United currently find themselves sixth in the table, nine points behind current table-toppers Chelsea.

Whilst serious pressure is mounting on the shoulders of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who oversaw United’s fourth defeat in their last six Premier League matches on Saturday against Manchester City, it is not just a change in manager that the Reds could be in need of, with the players, too, having to take their share of the blame as well.

With the squad still lacking talent in some areas, United may use the January window to bolster their ranks, although, of course, finances will dictate what they can and cannot do.

As well as the January window offering United the chance to add to their squad, it will also be an opportunity for them to offload those who don’t currently figure in Solskjaer’s plans, should he still be in charge come the start of 2022. The likes of Phil Jones, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Donny van de Beek have all struggled for regular opportunities this season and may push for a January exit, whether it be on a loan deal or a permanent exit.

January, too, could also be a defining period in Paul Pogba’s future at Old Trafford. The France international is out-of-contract next June and has shown no sign of putting pen to paper on a new deal, meaning United may look to cash-in whilst they can still claim a transfer fee.

With the opening of the window now less than two months away, MEN Sport is opening up the floor for United’s fans to have their say on what they think the Reds should do in January.
