France Football editor speaks out on claim Lionel Messi has been told he is 2021 Ballon d’Or winner

2021 Ballon d’Or nominees

The 30 nominees for the 2021 Ballon d’Or would be announced in early October.

Unsurprisingly, the list is heavily dominated by Chelsea, who won the Champions League final, and Manchester City, who won the Premier League and reached the 2021 CL final before losing to Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Both sides have five players nominated, whilst the rest of the list features a lot of the usual suspects, such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski.

The full list is as follows:

Lewandowski, Salah, Jorginho, Azpilicueta, Lukaku, Ronaldo, Foden, Gerard Moreno, Mbappe, Suarez, De Bruyne, Dias, Kjaer, Neymar, Lautaro Martinez, Messi, Pedri, Chiellini, Bruno Fernandes, Modric, Mahrez, Haaland, Kante, Mount, Bonucci, Donnarumma, Kane, Benzema, Barella, Sterling

Messi win claim false?

The winner of the 2021 Ballon d’Or is set to be announced on the 29th of November.

However, reports stemming from Portugal last week claimed that the winner had already been revealed in the form of Lionel Messi:

Messi already holds the record for most Ballon d’Ors with six and this would, of course, extend his record even further to seven.

However, claims Messi has already been informed he has won the prize this year have now been dismissed by Pascal Ferre, the editor of the magazine – France Football – which awardes the Ballon d’Or.

Speaking to Bild, as cited by the Mirror, regarding the claims Messi has already been told he has won the Ballon d’Or, Ferre stated:

“That’s a lot of bull**** we’ve seen in the past ten days. A big bluff.”
