Leonardo on Messi’s Argentina call up: PSG don’t agree, it doesn’t make sense
Lionel Messi’s call up to the Argentine national side hasn’t gone down well at his club Paris Saint-Germain. The PSG forward has been included in the Argentina squad by head coach Lionel Scaloni for their two upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil despite suffering from injury problems in recent weeks.
PSG sporting director Leonardo has made his opinion clear on Messi‘s inclusion in the Albiceleste squad.
“We don’t agree with letting a player, who isn’t fit to play for us and is in recovery, join up with his national side,” Leonardo told Le Parisien.
“It doesn’t make sense and this kind of situation needs to be discussed with FIFA.”
Messi currently has a problem with his left knee and sat out the French side’s Champions League match against RB Leipzig as well as their Ligue 1 game against Bordeaux.
