Alan Shearer blown away by Liverpool 23-year-old
Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has been praised by Alan Shearer following one of his “magnificent” deliveries in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The Reds ran out 2-0 winners over Atletico Madrid at Anfield, with the 23-year-old setting up goals for Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane.
Liverpool took the lead in the 13th minute as Jota headed home from point-blank range from a superb Alexander-Arnold delivery.
In the 21st minute, the Anfield academy graduate split the Atletico defence open with a pass for Mane, whose first-time finish doubled the Reds’ lead.
Liverpool could have easily scored more, but they missed a number of chances, while Jota saw another striker ruled out for offside.
Atleti then found the back of the net, but Luis Suarez’s deflected shot was also chalked off following a VAR review.
Following the Liverpool opener, Shearer wrote the following on Twitter about Alexander-Arnold’s assist:
Alexander-Arnold has become one of the best right-backs in world football since making his breakthrough at Anfield.
He is closing in on 200 competitive senior appearances for Liverpool and has helped his boyhood club win the Premier League and Champions League.
Alexander-Arnold has also been recalled to the England team for their final World Cup qualifiers at home to Albania and away to San Marino.
Liverpool are now unbeaten in 16 games and haven’t tasted defeat in 25 matches.
Up next for Jurgen Klopp’s charges is Sunday’s Premier League trip to West Ham.
