Risers, fallers, fresh contenders, a new king and all that emerald green – The Athletic

Welcome to the second installment of the NHL style power rankings!

We debuted this series here on The Athletic after the Leafs and the Coyotes decided to relax their dress codes before the 2021-22 season. In the 10 days since those teams had strong showings in our first rankings, though, both have disappointed. All the Coyotes have given us is bland suits and “Entourage” circa 2006 — a far cry from last time, when desert style icon Ryan Dzingel ranked No. 4 — while the Leafs’ social media presence has disappeared almost entirely, perhaps due to their disappearance on the ice. At least they’re matching.

Luckily, players on the 30 other teams have managed to step in and put together some spectacular looks.

As we get deeper into the season, we’re able to take consistency into account, and that played a significant role in this batch of power rankings. The notable trends we’re spotting around the league right now: emerald green, large checkers, bold pants, turtlenecks and uhh … Mickey Mouse?

Who have been our top performers? Will we see some spooky styles mixed in for Halloween? On to the rankings.
